A second agreement covering the overseas sales and distribution of graphite has been signed by Societe d’Exploration Miniere Mazarin (ME). Nichimen Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nichimen Corp. of Tokyo, has been granted for the next six years the sales and distribution rights to Japan and some Asiatic countries.
Nichimen has agreed to buy a minimum of 1,500 tonnes of graphite during the first year of commercial production of Mazarin’s Lac Knife project, with an option to buy an additional 3,000 tonnes. Minimum purchases will progress to 2,000 and 3,000 tonnes during the second and third years, respectively, of production; the option of buying an additional 3,000 tonnes will be maintained.
Mazarin recently announced a sales and distribution agreement with an unidentified German firm covering Western and Eastern Europe excluding the United Kingdom and Scandinavia.
Mazarin will supply its distributors from a flake graphite deposit near Fermont, Que. The junior is negotiating with a number of possible partners to develop the Lac Knife property.
