Manitoba to host convention

Magmatic nickel, red-bed copper and Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) lead-zinc deposits are among the topics slated for discussion at Manitoba Mining and Minerals Convention 2000, scheduled for Nov. 16-18 in Winnipeg.

Paul Severin, vice-president of exploration for Falconbridge, and Dr. David Peck, that company’s senior project geologist, will host a discussion of magmatic nickel deposits, which form a significant part of Manitoba’s base metals industry.

At another session, Dr. Mark Fedikow, a geologist with the Manitoba Department of Industry, Trade and Mines, will direct a discussion of red-bed copper and MVT carbonate-hosted lead-zinc deposits.

The theme is “Manitoba: Your rock-solid advantage.” Among the advantages is $9 million in exploration and development incentives.

Registration is $175. Phone: 1-800-223-5215. Fax: (204) 945-8427.
