Malartic drift entering Orion ore

The No 8 zone at the Orion gold property is expected to be reached by an underground drift within days, Malartic Hygrade Gold Mines says. Located less than a mile northeast of the Camflo-Malartic gold mine near Val d’Or, Que., the Orion property is being explored via a 2,800-ft drift from the old Orion mine workings.

A bulk sampling program will be started upon accessing the zone. This will be completed via raise and sub-level drifting. Underground workings, completed by previous operators, extend to a depth of 400 ft. Based on positive results from the current program, Malartic will consider sinking a vertical shaft in order to access the zone at depth.

Drilling below the 400-ft level has intersected several strong sections, including 27.5 ft grading 0.51 oz gold per ton, 36.8 ft grading 0.3 oz and a 45-ft section assaying 0.67 oz. Each section cut visible gold.
