Major Gen. hits massive sulphides

The first hole of a drilling program at the Rendell-Jackman project in Newfoundland intersected 38 metres of zinc-lead-copper massive sulphide mineralization.

Major General Resources (VSE), owner of the property, is in the midst of a 3,000-metre program designed to outline additional reserves outside the Hammerdown gold deposit.

The first hole (RJ-13) is targeted on the Lochinvar prospect, where Noranda intersected narrow base metal values during past programs. The best interval in hole RJ-13 returned 8.4 metres grading 6.22% zinc, 0.8% copper, 1.38% lead and 46.5 grams silver and 0.28 grams gold per tonne.

The hole is about 75 metres on strike from Noranda’s two closest holes. The mineralized intervals are hosted in a fine-grained felsic volcanic sequence that appears to thicken in the direction of the new drill hole. Major General is mobilizing a second rig to the property to test the discovery further.

Meanwhile, work is continuing on an evaluation of the Hammerdown deposit to the west. The company is reviewing development possibilities for the deposit, which contains an estimated geological resource of 380,000 tonnes grading 16.4 grams gold.

Additional staking around the Lochinvar base metal discovery has doubled the size of the company’s land position from 7,500 to 15,000 acres. Staking was concentrated in the geological areas considered favorable to the discovery of base metals and associated previous metals.
