Major drills Murgor’s ground

Another round of drilling by Battle Mountain Gold (BMG-N) will test Murgor Resources‘ (MUG-M) Mishi Creek gold property in the Mishibishu area of northwestern Ontario.

The 1999 program, scheduled to begin in early March, follows a 16-hole, 2,881-metre drill program completed late last year. The 1998 program tested the Dorset zone along a strike length of at least 2 km and returned anomalous gold over significant widths.

Battle Mountain says “near ore-grade” mineralization was found at two separate locations 500 metres apart, though more work is required to evaluate their economic potential. Encouraging results from the 1998 program include 9.3 metres grading 1.37 grams gold per tonne, 15.3 metres of 2 grams (including 5.9 metres of 3 grams), 3.7 metres of 5.23 grams and 15.2 metres of 2.99 grams (including 7.5 metres of 5.05 grams).

This year’s 6-hole program will test the zone below the Dorset East area, where previous drilling returned 3.74 grams gold over 21.21 metres. This portion of the zone displays the strongest alteration and mineralization, both of which appear to improve with depth.

Battle Mountain can earn a 60% interest in the 132-claim block by paying $775,000 in cash over four years and spending $5.5 million on exploration by the sixth year of the agreement.

The property is 80 km southeast of Battle Mountain’s gold mine near Hemlo, Ont.
