Profits keep climbing for Lornex Mining Corp., which reports 1987 earnings of $44 million, or $5.32 per share, up 61% from $27.3 million or $3.30 per share in 1986. Revenue rose to $209.3 million from $206.7 million in the previous year.
Net profit for the last quarter of 1987 was $17.2 million compared to $7.2 million for the same period of 1986. Revenues for the quarter were $67 million and $44.7 million respectively.
Due to the formation of Highland Valley Copper on July 1, 1986, the annual figures are not strictly comparable. The 1987 figures include Lornex’s 45% interest in Highland Valley Copper for the full year, while the 1986 figures include Lornex’s own copper-molybdenum operations for the six months to June 30, 1986, and Lornex’s interest in Highland Valley Copper for the balance of the year.
The company attributes its profit increases to higher prices for copper and lower unit production costs. Improved productivity and efficiency of operations more than offset the lower production of copper and molybdenum attributable to Lornex.
