Mining companies must do a better job of connecting with youth, First Nations, recycling and new technology, former Anglo American (LSE: AAL) CEO Mark Cutifani says in a new video.
“Where we’ve lost a lot of experience in the industry, it’s a great weakness at the moment,” Cutifani told The Northern Miner’s International Metals Symposium in London last month. “We’ve got to do a lot more in helping younger people coming through.”
Cutifani reflected on his four-decade career that saw him turn around the fortunes of AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE: AU) and run Vale’s (NYSE: VALE) base metals unit. He’s now on the board of TotalEnergies.
The keynote chat with Ana Gabriela Juárez, president of Guatemala-based CTA Environmental Consultants, also covered reciprocal trust across company hierarchies and executive accessibility.
