LITERATURE REVIEW SPECIAL — Romarco picks up more gold at Midas property in Nevada

At its Midas property in Elko Cty., Nev., Romarco Minerals (R-T) has intersected additional gold mineralization.

Earlier reverse-circulation drill holes there intersected mineralized zones with grades of 1.7-30.6 grams gold and up to 480 grams silver per tonne (T.N.M., June 3/96). The new holes, also advanced by reverse-circulation drilling, were drilled at a shallower angle to test the same structure at depth. The new mineralization was found along strike from the Rex-Grande zone at the Midas property of Franco-Nevada Mining (FN-T) and Euro-Nevada Mining (EN-T).

Romarco’s hole 14, drilled near the Rex-Grande zone in the southeast corner of the property, cut a 6.1-metre intersection grading 9.6 grams gold and 44.5 grams silver, and 15.2 metres of 7.4 grams gold and 305 grams silver. Both intersections had higher-grade intervals, with gold concentrations as high as 18 grams.

Hole 15, drilled from the most northwesterly location tested thus far, cut a 7.6-metre intersection grading 7.7 grams gold and 85.6 grams silver. Most of the gold and silver found in this intersection was in a 3.1-metre structure grading 18 grams gold and 202 grams silver.

Infill holes along strike, between holes 14 and 15, intersected structures 1.5-13.7 metres wide with gold grades in the range of 3-6 grams.

Two holes were also drilled on the Dixie claims, south and west of the main Midas property. Hole 18 encountered gold mineralization over a 1.5-metre interval grading 11.4 grams gold and 117 grams silver. Hole 29, immediately to the west, cut 10.7 metres of 3.7 grams gold and 647 grams silver.

In September, the company will carry out 3,000 metres more of deep reverse-circulation drilling to acquire data between the widely spaced holes of the first drilling phase. This will be followed up with 1,500 metres of diamond drilling to confirm reverse-circulation grades and check vein orientations.
