LITERATURE REVIEW — Potash Corp. posts sixth straight year of increased profits

Launched as a public company in 1990, Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (POT-T) last year marked its sixth straight year of improved profits.

As the company progressed through the year, each quarter proved to be the best in its history. As well, the company has grown to become the world’s largest potash producer by capacity and the third-largest phosphate producer.

Potash Corp. earned US$46.2 million in the fourth quarter, compared with US$37.2 million in the same period of 1995.

The company’s net sales in 1996 totalled US$1.4 billion, a 64% increase over sales of US$856 million in the previous year. Net income of US$209 million represented a 31% increase over 1995 net income of US$159 million.
