Two follow-up drill holes by Thunderwood Resources (THS-T) and Consolidated Abitibi Resources (CAQ-M) at their Lew polymetallic property in the Flin Flon-Snow Lake volcanic belt in Manitoba have returned mixed results.
The first of the holes was sunk near previously reported hole LW-18, which returned massive sulphide mineralization grading 3.1% copper, 10.5% zinc, as well as 10.4% grams silver and 1.3 grams gold per tonne over 1.52 metres.
The new hole failed to return significant base metal mineralization, but the company reports that the results of a downhole electromagnetic (EM) survey there suggests that sulphides occur south of, and below, LW-18.
Hole LW-20 was sunk to test a gold zone identified in holes 14, 16 and 17 (T.N.M., March 16-22/98). The follow-up hole returned 74.6 grams gold and 56 grams silver over 0.36 metre. The zone has been traced over a strike length of 182 metres and to a vertical depth of 91 metres, and remains open along strike and to depth.
Thunderwood and Abitibi also conducted drill programs at their Morgan Lake and Reed Lake properties in Manitoba, as well as at the Mystic Lake property in Saskatchewan.
At Morgan Lake, three holes over 697.4 metres failed to encounter significant base metal or gold mineralization.
At Mystic Lake, two holes over 562 metres tested two EM conductors near the past-producing Coronation mine, but returned no significant base metal or gold mineralization.
Drilling at the Reed Lake property also failed to return significant mineralization. The companies were evaluating a hydrothermal alteration zone from which grades of 0.3% zinc, 0.3% copper, as well as 10.3 grams silver and 0.9 gram gold, were recovered. Moderate to strong alteration and off-hole EM anomalies exist on the property, and the companies may conduct further drilling.
The companies report that they will conduct additional exploration at the Lew and Bruce Morgan properties.
