The moose with the habit of selective browsing over gold-bearing bedrock, as described by Hugh Coulson in his letter (T.N.M., Dec. 31/90), is a captivating example of the unexplainable. The picture shows a fine trophy specimen but in reality is likely a fugitive from an Indian’s mulligan pot. From past experience, I recognize a bologna bull with the muscle development of a veteran plough ox and I wonder why Hugh and the boys would have opted for such tough table fare in lieu of the rewards that awaited them had they chosen to keep a close eye on the munching habits of this gifted animal. He surely would have led them to hidden treasures but sadly, this was lost when the decision was made to pull the trigger. And on the streets of Bay and Howe, moose pasture could have attained its most exciting and compelling stature. Pity, pity.
Ah well, I shall now turn my attention to the task of locating the origin of the gold nuggets I found last fall, tucked away in the gizzard of a Canada goose, a wild one. Any backers out there? Harris Hanson Swastika, Ont.
