Letters to the Editor Shallow drilling

I was surprised to read in the May 23 edition of The Northern Miner that at Amca’s Silver Cross property in Arizona “water problems have all but eliminatd any chance of finding economic reserves near existing mine workings.”

Says who? The writer took a 3-week-old news release and added that assumption.

In fairness, the news release was muddled and one could reach that conclusion. Nevertheless, a publication such as The Northern Miner is well regarded and widely read. This is more reason that relevant facts should be “unearthed.” If the writer had made the effort to contact management regarding the drill program, he would have learned that no diamond drill holes were done and also, all holes that were drilled were shallow. Several visiting geologists have stated that they would conduct a deeper drilling program before “walking away” from the existing area, particularly if it is a typical epithermal deposit.
