Letters to the Editor (August 22, 1988)

In reference to your editorial, Corporate Giving Not Just A Frill, May 1988, the Vancouver Art Gallery would like to acknowledge the generous support from three very prominent mining companies: Placer Dome Inc., Pioneer Metals Corporation and Teck Corporation.

Placer Dome sponsored $20,000 for the exhibition and programming of Once Upon a Time, an exhibition of illustrations from Canadian children’s books, May 20 to July 10, 1988.

Pioneer Metals contributed $6,000 to the very successful Art After Dark event May 6, 1988, and in 1987 sponsored Industrial Images/ Industrial Imagination for $12,000.

$15,000 was contributed by Teck Corporation toward the very popular Chinese Exhibition Li Kuchan in 1987.

With philanthropic leaders in the mining industry such as Placer Dome, Pioneer Metals, and Teck Corporation, plus editorials such as yours, perhaps more corporations will realize the many benefits afforded through sponsorships of the arts.
