Letters IS THIOUREA DEADLY?

Supplier data sheets identify thiourea as a “suspected carcinogen,” noting citations from IARC and the National Toxicology Program (NTP).

The point of this communication is to highlight the fact that the implementation of “The Thiourea Option” could be quite difficult in the age of WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and the right to refuse work considered to be unsafe. For example, I have recently become aware of an Australian copper refinery which abruptly discontinued the use of thiourea due to a cancer scare precipitated by supplier labels. D. W.
