Finally, to say that “Noranda did not pick up on rock mechanics as fast as we (Brunswick) did” is ridiculous because Brunswick is a Noranda Group company.
I did say that Brunswick has had a person in ground control for about 10 years and that many of the smaller Noranda mines did not dedicate someone to rock mechnics until the Noranda Technology Centre opened a Geomechanics Division in 1983-84. Brent Kristof, Senior Ground Control Engineer, Brunswick Mining & Smelting Correction The size of a barricade poured by Inco Ltd. at the Creighton mine in Sudbury, Ont., using a new cementitious foam called TEKFOAM was incorrectly reported in “Notes from Underground” in our issue of May, 1989. The actual size of the barricade was about 6.7 m wide, 3.7 m high and 4.6 m thick or about 120 cu m. The material is manufactured by TECHNIK Mining, a division of Foseco Canada of Guelph, Ont. Use of this product as a barricade construction material is still undergoing engineering assessment.
