Our concern was sparked by the 3-volume report of the Premier’s Council, 1988, which had a mandate to “steer Ontario into the forefront of economic leadership and technological innovation.” We couldn’t find a reference to mining, and forestry was only briefly mentioned.
Copies of the report are available from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Technology.
Since only 20% of Canadians live outside our urban centres, the message of high tech awareness will not be heard unless the mining and forestry sectors take this as a campaign.
