Laurentian University’s School of Engineering continued to dominate the Canadian Mining Games with its third championship title in the past four years.
Laurentian placed high in several events and secured a victory over a strong team from the University of Alberta.
Hosted by the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, the 2002 Games involved mining and metallurgy students from eight other universities, including Dalhousie, Laval, L’cole Polytechnique, McGill, Queen’s, the University of Alberta, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Toronto.
Students competed in the following events: mine rescue, mineral processing design, materials handling, stock market analysis, tailings dam failure, jackleg drilling, mine design, rock mechanics, blasting, surveying, and ventilation.
Laurentian has four gold, five silver and one bronze in the 12-year history of the Games.
