The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) of Washington, D.C., approved $6 billion in 1993 for projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Created in 1959, the bank has approved more than $60 billion for projects in energy, transportation, communications, agriculture, industry, tourism, the environment, water and sanitation, urban development, education, and health.
Enterprises and individuals from IDB-member countries are awarded more than 2,000 contracts yearly for goods, civil works and consultant services on IDB-supported projects. During the past two years, Canadian companies that have been involved have received almost $100 million for goods and services.
