Exploration on the 280-sq.-km property in the historic El Oro gold camp, northwest of Mexico City, is under way by Hillsborough Resources (TSE) and Mexican joint-venture partner Luismin S.A. de C.V.
The companies are focusing on the San Rafael and Verde veins, within the El Oro vein cluster. Reserve calculations based on historical data indicate that these veins contain possible reserves of 14 million tonnes grading 2-6 grams gold per tonne.
Mercury vapor analyses have been completed over the southern extension of the Verde vein and are being conducted in a new area, 4 km east of the main vein cluster. Several drill targets have been outlined.
A 7-hole drill program on the San Rafael vein is scheduled to begin shortly. The holes are being drilled to determine the grade of the remnant vein material and stope backfill.
The partners are also planning a bulk sample of the old tailings, which are reported to contain about one million tonnes grading 3 grams gold and 75 grams silver.
