LATIN AMERICA ROUNDUP — Free trade agreement for all?

While Canada, Mexico and the U.S. work at a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), a U.S. official says it is possible other Latin American nations could be included in the pact.

Trade representative Carla Hills said “rules for admission” would include a country’s ability to control inflation and debt levels. The three NAFTA countries would have to approve any new members.

Mexico is already negotiating free trade agreements with certain Central American nations and in 1991 made a bilateral deal with Chile.
