LATIN AMERICA — NEWS ROUNDUP — More drilling for Bongara

Drilling has resumed on the Bongara zinc project in northern Peru. The current program is aimed at testing targets outlined by Cominco (CLT-T) during a recent surface exploration program.

The base metal producer can earn up to 60% of Bongara from Solitario Resources (SLR-T), which in turn is owned 57% by Crown Resources (CRO-T).

Cominco has a crew of 20 geologists and 50 helpers at work at Bongara. About 18 separate target areas were evaluated by geological mapping and by the collection and analysis of more than 4,000 rock and soil samples. Several new target areas will be drilled this field season.

Bongara hosts a known deposit of oxide zinc mineralization. However, recent work at the project has focused on a zone of zinc-lead sulphide mineralization discovered in the summer of 1996 at Florida Canyon.
