Ongoing exploration at the San Antonio property in eastern Sonora, Mexico, is aimed at testing the bulk-tonnage potential of gold mineralization identified in several new areas.
Laminco Resources (TSE) is focusing its attention along the east-west-trending California fault, which has been traced over a distance of 6,500 ft. and is thought to be the main feeder system for gold mineralization.
The Double A is a new zone situated 1,200 ft. west of the Central California area.
Preliminary drilling returned significant intersections from four holes, ranging from 55 ft. of 0.016 oz. gold per ton for hole 110, to 80 ft. of 0.079 oz. (including 35 ft. of 0.12 oz.) for hole 106.
The East California zone lies in the opposite direction, 600 ft. to the east of Central California. Only a single hole, 77, is reported to date. It returned 65 ft. of 0.054 oz.
Mineralization in both areas occurs at the intersections of prominent sets of cross-structures.
Geological mapping, along with geochemical soil and rock sampling, has identified four additional targets. Las Prietas — an area covering the easternmost end of the California fault — contains a broad, continuous soil anomaly with grades of up to 0.03 oz.
El Tigre ridge is a 2,000-ft. northeast-trending zone, situated some 3,500 ft. west of the Central California area. Sampling has returned values of up to 0.1 oz. gold and 0.25% copper in a skarn-type mineralized zone. Laminco says elevated copper values in El Tigre area suggest that an intrusive contact zone is nearby.
The Oro Grueso zone is situated on the western slope of El Tigre, where it extends north. Extensive soil and rock sampling is in progress to test this zone.
The fourth area is a parallel ridge, south of and 1,200 ft. up slope from the California fault. The Carrizo ridge extends over a length of 6,000 ft., west of the Central California area and southwest of El Tigre. An extensive geochemical sampling program is also under way in this area.
Laminco plans a geophysical program of polarization resistivity and ground magnetics. This work will begin shortly in an effort to delineate drill targets further.
