A follow-up program of reverse-circulation drilling is assessing the bulk-tonnage potential of gold mineralization on the San Antonio property in Mexico’s Sonora state.
Owner Laminco Resources (TSE) reports that the 15,000-ft. program is testing the California zone, as well as two segments of a larger structure which may extend to the east and adjoin the Luz del Cobre copper deposit. The two segments are known as Cerro Sapuchi and Trion.
The California zone has been traced on surface over a strike length of 2,000 ft., with widths of up to 350 ft. Hosted in sedimentary rocks, the main feeder system for the gold mineralization is believed to be the east-west-trending California fault.
Nine holes recently tested the main segment of the zone, returning the following selected assay results: 570 ft. of 0.052 oz. per ton for hole 61; 390 ft. of 0.047 oz. (including 0.1 oz. over 165 ft. and 0.14 oz. over 50 ft.) for hole 62; 685 ft. of 0.041 oz. (including 0.068 oz. over 190 ft. and 0.1 oz. over 145 ft.) for hole 67; and 560 ft. of 0.029 oz. (including the intervals of 190 ft. of 0.043 oz., 60 ft. of 0.06 oz. and 35 ft. of 0.053 oz.) for hole 69.
Several of the holes ended in mineralization. Stepout drilling will continue to define the zone to the east and west, as well as to the south. The Cerro Sapuchi area, which lies northwest of the California zone, includes the Mina Grande structure. Gold mineralization here occurs within a series of stacked, gently dipping faults and breccia zones. Seven holes tested the Mina Grande, extending the mineralization eastward, towards the neighboring Trion area. Drill results include 15 ft. of 0.089 oz. for hole 56; 85 ft. of 0.055 oz. for hole 57; 15 ft. of 0.03 oz. and 20 ft. of 0.05 oz. for hole 60; and 100 ft. of 0.036 oz. for hole 71.
The Trion area was tested with five holes, returning: 15 ft. of 0.044 oz. for hole 70; 60 ft. of 0.079 oz. for hole 73; and 145 ft. of 0.058 oz. (including the intervals grading 0.083 oz. over 35 ft. and 0.093 oz. over 35 ft.) for hole 74.
Laminco believes the copper mineralization at Luz del Cobre is hosted in rocks similar to those at Trion and Cerro Sapuchi. The three zones extend over a minimum strike length of 5,000 ft.
