Lacana and partners make silver discovery in N.B.

A surface prospecting program carried out by Lacana Mining Corp. and members of the M.E.X. joint venture in New Brunswick, has led to the discovery of a mineralized zone rich in silver.

The partners, which include American Oakwood Energy, Sparton Resources, and Lynx-Canada Explorations, report that work on the California Lakes claims, 50 km southwest of Bathurst, unearthed a wide zone of strongly altered brecciation within a 250-ft-wide trench.

Trenching on the zone has defined four separate zones which assayed values of 8.1 oz silver per ton across 3 ft, 9.1 oz silver across 4.5 ft and 2.87 oz silver across a 15-ft section. A wider 25-ft section graded 13.1 oz silver, including 10 ft which assayed 30.3 oz silver, Lacana’s chief geologist, A. Lee Barker told The Northern Miner.

The mineralization appears to be related to late stage breccia zones associated with the contacts of felsic intrusive dikes or sills, Mr Barker explains. The partners plan to start a diamond drilling program on the property in October.

At the Elmtree gold project, also in New Brunswick, diamond drilling is expected to start shortly. The program will test for the down- plunge extension of the West Gabbro zone.
