Lac/Cambior Doyon gets even better

Two ore zones have been intersected in the first hole of a deep drilling program at the Doyon gold mine in northwestern Quebec.

The program was initiated by joint venture partners Lac Minerals and Cambior Inc., to confirm the downward extension of the high grade West ore zone and the Main orebody.

This first hole intersected two ore zones about 150 ft apart and 1,835 ft below surface. This is about 1,000 ft below the known ore zones.

Significant assays from this hole returned 0.42 oz gold per ton over a true width of 20 ft and 0.34 oz over a true width of 23 ft in the main zone and west zone respectively.

This has major tonnage implications for the Doyon, say the companies, and add that further drilling will be conducted in this same area which is about 1,000 ft west of the recently completed shaft.

Development of the main underground mine and the new west mine of Doyon has been under way for the last three years. Underground mining is currently going on to the second level in the west mine with underground production from the main mine scheduled to start next year.

The mine accounts for almost one:third of Lac’s gold production, excluding the Page- Williams Hemlo mine. Total gold production from the Doyon is expected to amount to 210,000 oz this year and 230,000 oz next year.
