Several junior companies are planning exploration programs on ground acquired or staked near Diamond Fields’ (TSE) Voisey Bay nickel-copper-cobalt discovery in Labrador.
ASE-listed Takla Star Resources has retained a geological consulting firm to prepare technical reports and make recommendations for exploration programs on its 16 properties in the region.
The junior has staked 912 claims totalling 22,800 hectares, and optioned a 75% interest in 60 claims totalling 1,500 hectares from Newfoundland Mining & Exploration.
Takla Star’s land position comprises 16 claim groups covering distinct geological and geophysical targets near the immediate discovery area. The claims cover discrete airborne magnetic anomalies associated with gabbroic and anorthositic (principally troctolite) phases of the Nain Plutonic Suite. Absolut Resources (ASE) is about to undertake geophysical surveys on its properties in Labrador, with ground exploration to follow in the summer. The company has acquired 1,001 claims in 10 separate blocks which cover geochemical and magnetic anomalies in the Voisey Bay area.
Lucero Resource (VSE) recently acquired rights to about 899 claims (in 25 separate blocks) in Labrador, most of which are within the Nain intrusive complex.
Late last year, International Canalaska Resources (VSE) announced it had picked up a ground position near Diamond Fields’ discovery. Several majors are also taking part in the staking rush, including Noranda (TSE), Cominco (TSE) and others.
