La Fosse encouraged by Labrador platinum hunt

La Fosse Platinum Group continues to meet with encouragement at the company’s platinum group metals projects spread across the Schefferville and Kuujjuaq regions of Labrador.

In the Retty Lake area, La Fosse is drilling three copper-nickel deposits with appreciable platinum group metal values. At the Pogo copper-nickel deposit, half of the holes completed have cut platinum values exceeding 0.1 oz platinum per ton. Combined copper-nickel grades average 2%.

Drilling on the Centre deposit has confirmed the presence of similar platinum and base metal values. One section assayed 0.8 oz palladium per ton and 0.12 oz platinum across a 1-ft section. The hole was spotted 200 ft from another section which intersected 8 ft grading 1.2 oz palladium and 0.8 oz platinum. Both the Pogo and Centre deposits also contain gold values ranging up to 0.1 oz gold.

Drilling is also in progress at the Blue Lake property. Initial results include 0.04 oz platinum and 0.18 oz palladium across a 2.9-ft section. Massive sulphides have also been intersected by drilling on the Chance Lake deposit. Four holes have cut the zone over mineable widths, La Fosse says.

Prospectors for the company have acquired an additional three exploration permits which cover geology similar to that at the St. Pierre showing located 60 km west of Kuujjuaq. Sampling completed in 1986 assayed up to 0.13 oz platinum and 0.07 oz palladium at St. Pierre.

Work is also under way at the Mistamisk Lake project north of Schefferville and on the Gerido South property located 30 km south of the St. Pierre project.
