Vancouver — Pan American Silver (PAA-T) has boosted the output potential of the La Colorada silver mine in Mexico.
The newly completed US$20 million mine expansion is slated to boost annual silver production to 3.8 million oz from 0.7 million. Cash costs are expected to come in at US$2.65 per oz.
A 600 tonne per day oxide mill was added to the existing 200 tonne per day sulphide mill. Full production capacity is expected to be reached within a few months.
The La Colorada mine has been under operating at a small scale with production coming in at 626,035 oz. silver in 2002.
Pan American now has four silver operations. In 2003, the company’s silver production is expected to grow to 10.3 million oz.
