Kinross exec at luncheon

Scott Caldwell, chief operating officer of Kinross Gold, will speak at a luncheon of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, slated for Sept. 19, at the Ontario Club in Toronto.

Caldwell joined Kinross in 1998 as an operations vice-president after working for various companies in Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Russia and the U.S.

He has participated in the development and operation of various surface and underground copper and gold mines.

Mineral valuation forum

Alan Stagg of West Virginia-based Stagg Resource Consultants will host a session on the appraisal of mining enterprises, as part of a Business Valuation Conference Oct. 24-26 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

The conference, which will feature a program on minerals valuation, is sponsored by the American Society of Appraisers and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators.

Other sessions include economic methods of valuing mineral assests, hosted by Graham Davis, a professor at the Colorado School of Mines; Valuation of non-producing mineral properties, hosted by William Roscoe of Roscoe Postle & Associates; and Unraveling the mysteries of mining transactions, hosted by Douglas Silver of Colo.-based Balfour Holdings, a consulting firm.
