The Canadian Exploration Geophysical Society (KEGS) will be offering a one-day short course entitled “Geophysical and Geochemical Imaging of Canada’s Upper Mantle” on March 10 in Toronto, the Saturday before the annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada.
The short course covers modern research on the geophysics of the upper mantle, and the implications that that research has for both understanding the genesis of diamond deposits and designing exploration programs to find them.
Michael Bostock of the University of British Columbia will speak on seismic imaging of the upper mantle; Alan Jones of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), on deep electromagnetic sounding; William Davis of the GSC, on direct-dating and isotopic studies; and Donald Francis of McGill University, on the mantle roots of Archean cratons.
The event is the second offering of a short course held in Yellowknife, N.W.T., in 1999. Details are available from Dr. Peter Walker, Integrated Geoscience, 99 Queen St. S., Mississauga, Ont. L5N 1K7. Phone: 905-819-7844. E-mail: geoalg@istar.ca
