Prefeasibility drilling on the Varvarinskoye gold-copper deposit in Kazakhstan continues to return encouraging results for Kazakhstan Minerals (KMC-T), which has almost doubled its resource estimate for the property.
Among the best results are: 11.1 metres grading 4.68 grams gold and 0.63% copper in the River pit; 44.4 metres grading 3.24 grams gold in the Central pit; 41.1 metres grading 1.7 grams gold and 0.24% copper in the Southern pit; and 19.2 metres grading 12.3 grams gold in the Northeast pit. With the exception of those drilled in the Central pit, most of the holes bottomed out at depths of fewer than 100 metres.
The resource within these four “starter” pits is estimated to be 6.5 million tonnes grading 3 grams gold per tonne. In addition, KazMinCo has outlined a near-surface resource of 6.7 million tonnes grading 2.1 grams, just west of the main pits.
KazMinCo is also encouraged by early indications of deeper mineralization on the property. KazMinCo has completed 72 holes, nine of which were drilled to obtain samples for metallurgical testing. Tests are ongoing at Lakefield Laboratories in Ontario, and drilling continues with five rigs.
KazMinCo recently extended its land holdings in the district by securing a 525-sq.-km exploration licence along the same structural trend as Varvarinskoye.
