Kapalua plans shaft, stoping

Plans to sink a shaft and perform lateral stoping for the removal of bulk samples have been announced by Kapalua Gold Mines of Calgary for the Briscoe-Bryce gold property near Kirkland Lake, Ont.

The company stockpiled 500 tons of ore from a trenching and blasting program completed in February. Two trenches were dug 20 to 30 ft deep along the No 1 vein. Majority of the samples from the west trench assayed between 0.17 oz gold per ton and 1.5 oz, and from the east trench between 0.05 oz and 1.34 oz, President A. David Birkett said.

Other minerals found in the ore were silver, copper, zinc, lead and cobalt.

Birkett said Kapalua is currently negotiating a financing plan; the company is hoping to raise the required capital by way of flow- through financing.

Drilling has extended the length of the No 1 vein for more than 2,800 ft, to a depth of 170 ft, Birkett said. The vein is open and unexplored both laterally and to depth.
