The Northern Miner has partnered with Mining Matters and Alamos Gold (TSX, NYSE: AGI) to launch a new national initiative encouraging Canadian youth to explore the country’s mining heritage and learn how minerals continue to shape modern life.
The Junior Explorers Challenge, unveiled this month, is a monthly contest open to students aged nine to 17. Inspired by The Northern Miner’s Great Canadian Treasure Hunt, the program is designed to introduce young Canadians to the history of mining and mineral exploration through interactive activities that connect the industry’s past with the opportunities of its future.
“Canada’s mining industry has played a critical role in building this country, and it will remain essential to our future,” said Patricia Dillon, president and CEO of Mining Matters. “Through the Junior Explorers Challenge, we’re giving young Canadians an exciting opportunity to learn about where minerals come from, why they matter, and how they connect to the world around them.”
Monthly challenge
Each month, participants will be invited to complete a themed challenge focused on Canada’s rich mining legacy. One winner will be selected at random and awarded a top-tier prize of their choice, ranging from laptops and gaming consoles to drones, VR headsets and more.
The prize program is supported by Alamos Gold, whose sponsorship makes the monthly awards possible.
“The Junior Explorers Challenge is an initiative that we are proud to support to help the next generation of explorers, engineers and leaders in Canada,” said John McCluskey, President and CEO of Alamos Gold. “The unique challenges will be an opportunity for young people to become more engaged in and interested in mining.”
“We’re excited to help young Canadians discover just how important mining and minerals are in their everyday lives — from the phones they use to the energy systems of the future,” said Anthony Vaccaro, President of The Northern Miner Group. “The Junior Explorers Challenge is a fun and engaging way for students to imagine themselves as part of the next generation of explorers and innovators.”
