Jonpol and Cominco begin program at Garrcon project

Jonpol Explorations and Cominco Ltd. recently agreed to begin a $2-million exploration program on the Garrcon property in Garrison, Twp., Ont. Under the agreement, the funds will be spent over two years and will be used for detailed surface drilling and possibly an underground exploration decline.

Exploration drilling on the property has revealed five zones of gold mineralization which require detailed exploration. The most recent drilling results from the Munro Fault Zone have produced the following assays: hole 32 intersected a 24.7 ft section of 0.42 oz per ton gold while hole 36 cut a 100 ft section (west of hole 32) of 0.19 oz within a zone grading 0.07 oz over 70 ft.

Jonpol President John Pollock says his company will accelerate assay results by installing permanent core handling facilities on the property which is located 18 miles east of Matheson, Ont. The 12- claim property has been the site of a $500,000 Jonpol-funded exploration program since 1985. Cominco is the project operator.

In other news, Jonpol and Gowest Amalgamated Resources have received results from the first two drill holes at their Denton Twp., Ont., joint venture property. Jonpol can acquire a 45% interest in the property by spending $500,000 over one year.

Combined with three previously drilled holes, these holes form a section across the easterly trending stratigraphy. A survey of the holes reveals that the stratigraphy and mineralized zones have not been influenced by faulting as previously thought.

According to Mr Pollock, the five holes have intersected a carbonatized tuff bed dipping at 55 degrees north. It hosts two parallel gold-bearing sulphide zones below a depth of 330 ft.

He said the lower zone is continuous for over 700 ft down dip and it includes intersections of 0.07 oz over 15.9 ft, 0.10 oz over 16.5 ft, 0.18 oz over 10.1 ft, 0.124 oz over 9 ft and 0.186 oz over 14 ft. “The zone averages 0.13 oz gold per ton over an average true width of 11 ft,” he said.

The parallel and adjacent mineralized zone along the upper contact of the carbonatized tuff has been intersected by four holes. Values include 0.11 oz over 10 ft, 0.14 oz over 11.7 ft and 0.12 oz over 12.3 ft.

Drilling is continuing along a section approximately 150 ft to the east.
