John Gartner gets top Geotechnical Society honours

Gartner Lee co-founder John Gartner has received the Canadian Geotechnical Society’s (CGS) most prestigious award, the Robert F. Legget Medal, for 2008.

The award was presented to Gartner at a ceremony with past winners on Sept. 24.

Gartner founded Gartner Lee, an environmental science, economics, planning and engineering consultancy firm, in 1972 with Pat Lee. Gartner has received recognition over the years for his many geology- related endeavours.

He has held positions on numerous boards and committees, including chairman of the National Industrial Advisory committee, councillor of the Geological Association of Canada, vice-president for North America of the International Association of Engineering Geology and president of the Canadian Geoscience Council.

The Robert F. Legget Medal, dedicated to the internationally renowned geologist for his work in engineering, geology and standardization, was established in 1970 and is the longest running award offered by the CGS.
