At a Sept. 24 luncheon, Christopher Jennings will address the timely question: “Will diamond mining in Canada become a reality?” The meeting is hosted by the Toronto Branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.
President of SouthernEra Resources and a director of Aber Resources, he is among those who believe Canada’s mining industry is poised to enter its diamond phase. SouthernEra and Aber are active players at the Lac de Gras region in the Northwest Territories.
Now a Canadian citizen, Jennings hails from South Africa. He earned four degrees, including a Ph.D. in geology in 1974 from Natal University in Durban. During his 13 years with the Botswana Geological Survey, he advanced to become deputy director. Jennings was involved in the discovery of more than 66 kimberlite pipes in Botswana and a few in South Africa. In Canada he had served Falconbridge, BP Selco and Corona Corp.
