The mining of a 23-claim marble property 20 miles north of Sudbury, Ont., has been announced by Jarvis Resources (VSE) of Lively, Ont.
The company said drilling, stripping and block removal have delineated massive, multicolored marble deposits. Proven and probable reserves of six million tons have been outlined, with total reserves possibly being many times that amount.
The marble mineralization uncovered ranges 100-300 ft. in width, trends 2,000 ft. in length and 150 ft. in depth, and remains open at both ends and at depth, the company said. A major market for the marble will be the U.S. To raise funding for its marble project, Jarvis planned a $500,000 private placement this summer. It also applied for a grant under the Ontario Mineral Incentive Program.
Having purchased a Meyers block-cutting system, Jarvis proceeded with block extraction this summer. The blocks will remain at the quarry until a proposed tile and slab plant is operational. Finished product production could be under way by July, 1992.
A Jarvis director said the marble was discovered during a drilling program in search of gold on a limestone-volcanic contact.
