Having attained 70% of capacity, Desert Sun Mining (DSM-T) has declared commercial production at the reactivated Jacobina mine in Bahia state, Brazil.
During the second quarter, the mill ran through 210,400 tonnes of ore averaging 2.16 grams gold per tonne to produce 11,873 ounces of gold. During June, the mill squeezed 5,805 oz. out of 80,600 tonnes running 2.3 grams gold, for an improved recovery rate of 95.2%.
Since its first gold pour at the end of March, the mine has produced a total of 11,935 oz. of gold, with 9,889 of those sold at an average price of US$427 apiece. The US$4.2 million in revenue will be used to offset reactivation costs of around US$36 million.
“During the month of June, we produced over 5,800 ounces of gold, representing approximately 70% of our production capacity and believe we are on track to average 80% of our production capacity in the third quarter of 2005," said Desert Sun CEO Bruce Humphrey in a prepared statement.
"We are confident that we can achieve our target production rate of 100,000 ounces per year throughout the fourth quarter of this year,” he added.
