Ivanhoe drilling intersects gold

One of three holes drilled in the Hatter Dome area on the Ivanhoe property has intersected 525 ft. grading 0.012 oz. gold per ton from 1,330 ft. to 1,855 ft.

The property, in Elko Cty., Nev., is 75% owned by Newmont Mining (NYSE) and 25% by Cornucopia Resources (TSE).

The intersection, believed to represent close to true width, included 100 ft. assaying 0.02 oz. or better. The joint venture points out that the intersection is geologically similar to many of the adjacent Carlin trend properties to the south.

The gold mineralization is shear-hosted and associated with finely crystalline, black, sooty pyrite, arsenopyrite and bladed barite. Follow-up drilling is planned for early 1994, allowing sufficient time to permit additional holes.

The joint venture is completing 12 holes in the Silver Cloud-Quiver area of the property. This area represents a 15,000-ft.-long, northwest-trending zone of adularian alteration hosted by Tertiary volcanic rocks, and is coincident with anomalous surface gold values.
