During 1987, the innovation committee at J. S. Redpath Limited was established to evaluate ideas presented by employees.
Since that time, many gold and silver coins have been awarded as well as dinner for two certificates and cash merit awards.
More recently, the committee presented Peter Van Schaayk with a cheque in the amount of $5,000 for his design of a self-dumping crosshead which offers several safety features and benefits in shaft sinking operation. A prototype crosshead has been fabricated by Redpath personnel, tested, and is presently operational at the Chimo mine project in Val d’Or, Que.
