The latest results from infill drilling are adding more promise to the Agua Rica porphyry copper deposit in Argentina.
Situated in Catamarca province, the project is a joint venture between Northern Orion Explorations (NNO-T) and BHP Minerals International with 30% and 70% interests, respectively.
Drilling to date indicates that high-grade mineralization extends over 1,576 metres in an east-west direction and over 485 metres from north to south.
Holes 100 and 101 were drilled in the Mi Vida area of the deposit, whereas holes 102 and 103 were drilled in the Trampeadero portion. Results are as follows:
* Hole 100 was drilled to a depth of 296 metres and graded 1.28% copper and 0.020% molybdenum, as well as 0.56 gram gold and 2.1 grams silver per tonne.
Included in these results were 199 metres grading 1.64% copper, 0.014% moly, 0.61 gram gold and 2 grams silver.
* Hole 101 intersected 329.4 metres grading 0.51% copper, 0.017% moly, 0.31 gram gold and 1.8 grams silver, including 13 metres of 0.9% copper, 0.026% moly, 0.44 gram gold and 2.2 grams silver.
* Hole 102 was drilled to 159 metres grading 1.5% copper, 0.028% moly, 0.26 gram gold and 7.9 grams silver.
* Hole 103 intersected 612.5 metres grading 0.47% copper, 0.009% moly, 0.26 gram gold and 4.5 grams silver.
The resource potential of Agua Rica is estimated at 1.2 billion tonnes grading 0.5% copper and 0.22 gram gold, plus moly credits.
The partners are in the midst of a US$45-million work program to complete a final feasibility study.
