The eighth Mineral Economics Symposium, titled Mining 2001 — A Canadian Odyssey, is set for Jan. 21 in Toronto.
Organizing the symposium, which is dedicated to those concerned about where the industry is heading and how to position their companies accordingly, is the Mineral Economics Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).
Canadian mining companies in the 1990s will be challenged by changing markets and government policies on taxation, land use and the environment, says the CIM division. Corporate directions taken now, it says, will influence the shape and well-being of the industry by the turn of the century. A panel of industry leaders, academics and business strategists will dissect the issues, highlight
industry trends and offer suggestions on maintaining prosperity in the Canadian mining industry.
