Inco workers accept contract

Employees at Inco’s (TSE) Sudbury, Ont., nickel operations recently voted to accept a new 3-year wage contract which provides for a wage increase, including cost of living allowances and nickel price bonuses of 24%.

The contract also includes a private sector pension plan.

Under the contract, 6,300 unionized employees who are currently earning an average of $17.80 per hour, are entitled to a $1-per-hour increase plus a cost of living allowance of 88 cents as of June 1.

In the second and third years of the contract, employees will receive an additional 50 cents per hour plus a rolled-in cost of living allowance.

Inco workers voted in favor of the contract by a margin of 66.4%.
