Inco Ltd. (TSE) reports it has set up a separate business unit to manage and develop operations related to a series of nickel powders and other powder products.
The new unit, to be known as Inco specialty powder products, will be responsible for the worldwide sales, technical market development, research programs and the supply of powder products from three production facilities, in Canada, the U.S., and the U.K.
The specialty powder products, Inco says, are being sold and developed into market applications with fast-changing technologies such as powder metallurgy steel parts, conducting and electronic applications, batteries, electromagnetic shielding, special paints and pigments, automotive catalysts, and nickel- coated powder uses.
Production facilities are the carbonyl powder plants at Clydach, Wales, and Copper Cliff, Ont., (both of which operate a unique high- purity nickel refining process), and the Novamet plant in New Jersey, U.S.A., which produces a series of specialty powders.
The Inco unit will be headed by John B. Jones, as general manager.
