Inco planning summer shutdowns

Employees of the smelting and refining plants at the Sudbury, Ont., operations of Inco (TSE) will take a 5-week vacation next summer beginning July 1, the company announced. The company’s mining and milling operations will begin a 4-week vacation shutdown July 8. Inco’s Port Colborne refinery will close for five weeks beginning July 8.

At Thompson, Man., the summer vacation shutdown for all of the company’s mining and processing operations is scheduled for July 15-Aug. 11.

Inco’s Ontario division employs about 8,400 people, while the Manitoba division has about 2,000 workers.

Inco plans no vacation shutdown next year at its P.T. International Nickel Indonesia operations.
