Iceberg sinks Nanisivik zinc

A shipment of zinc concentrate from the Nanisivik mining operation on Baffin Island of Conwest Exploration (TSE) is lying on the ocean floor after the ship it was being carried on struck an iceberg.

Conwest said the vessel, with about 11,500 tonnes of concentrate on board and bound for the U.S., hit an iceberg in August in Baffin Bay off the coast of Greenland and sunk.

All hands on board were rescued, the company said. The buyer had already claimed title to the concentrate and Nanisivik will be paid, Conwest said. Two earlier shipments to Europe this year were routine, the company said.
