Montreal-based Messeguay Mines has pulled a hot intersection from its wholly-owned Launay/ Privat property where a new zone is being explored, the company said recently.
Weighing in at 64 ft grading 0.127 oz gold per ton, it appears to indicate the potential for a large tonnage, Messeguay says. The Launay gold property is located about 25 miles northeast of Rouyn-Noranda and covers parts of Launay, Privat and Guyenne twps.
With 75 holes already in place, Messeguay is spending over $1.3 million in 1988 to explore the property.
According to Messeguay, the current drill program is designed to test a large, well-fractured and altered zone containing pyrite and molybdenite. The zone is located east of a shear zone where previous results yielded 0.14 oz and 0.21 oz across 30.9 ft.
The best results obtained so far are listed below: Drill Hole Width Grade ML-87-01 4.8 ft 0.10 oz ML-87-02 10.0 ft 0.08 oz ML-87-09 5.0 ft 0.104 oz ML-87-15 9.2 ft 0.229 oz ML-87-19 5.0 ft 0.102 oz ML-87-21 4.8 ft 0.216 oz ML-87-40 4.8 ft 0.181 oz ML-87-63 8.8 ft 0.215 oz ML-87-75 64.0 ft 0.127 oz
Messeguay is waiting for results of a second hole which was drilled in the same area. “If the gold content in the second hole is similar we could be looking at something big,” said Marcel Richard, vice- president exploration.
“Mineralogically speaking, this new area isn’t typical of other northwestern Quebec gold regions, so we are being cautious,” he said.
