Independent consultants have attached a new resource to the Taparko gold project of
Situated in eastern Burkina Faso, Taparko is now believed to contain six zones, known as GT, 1, 2N, 2K, 3 and 5. Previous calculations considered only the GT, 3 and 5 zones.
Two firms, Rescan Engineering and Steffen Robertson & Kirsten, updated the resource as part of an ongoing feasibility study. They estimate that the six zones contain a combined 17.4 million tonnes grading 2.07 grams gold per tonne, based on a cutoff grade of 0.5 gram. At a 6-gram cutoff, the resource deflates to 3.4 million tonnes grading 4.61 grams.
The resource, which is not yet classified, incorporates results from 241 diamond drill holes, 80 reverse-circulation holes and 107 trenches. Most of the gold is held in quartz veins.
Attention has been focused on Zones 3 and 5, which contain 63% of the total contained ounces and are continuous with each other over a strike length of 1.1 km. Both remain open at depth, with the deepest intersection occurring about 100 metres below surface.
High River owns a 61.5% interest in the 1,200-sq.-km concession and acts as operator. The remaining interest is held 20% by the Burkina Faso government and 18.5% by Incanore Gold Mines.
