Hecla to shut down Grouse Creek mine

Having been deemed uneconomic at current gold and silver prices, the Grouse Creek mine will be closed next year.

Operator Hecla Mining (HL-N), which owns 80% of the Idaho project, is currently mining out the Sunbeam pit and expects to complete the task by mid-1997. Hecla and Great Lakes Minerals (GKM-T), which owns the remaining 20%, wrote off their investment in the mine in late 1995.
