Hecla sets safety record

A safety record has been set by Hecla Mining.

The company’s Republic gold mine in northeast Washington state experienced no lost-time accidents in all of 1992.

In fact, the last accident resulting in lost time at the mine was in September, 1991, bringing the total time span to nearly 18 months. Each of Republic’s 124 employees was awarded a one-quarter-oz. pure gold medallion. Mine Manager Ronald Clayton said industrial operations rarely go more than a year without lost-time accidents.
